Room by Room

Study & Children's Room

Spaces for learning and focus, with good, glare-free daylight.

Traditional Vastu guidance

  • The west, north-west or east suits children's rooms; the study table faces north or east.
  • Keep books and the desk in the north-east part of the room, and avoid sitting with your back to the door.

Practical & building science

  • North light is the best working light — even, cool and glare-free. Place the desk so light comes from the side, not from directly behind (shadows) or in front (glare).
  • Avoid desks facing a west window without shading.
  • Daylight and outdoor views are associated with lower eye strain and better wellbeing.
