Bathrooms & Toilets
Wet areas, drainage and the most important ventilation in the house.
Traditional Vastu guidance
- Toilets are preferred in the west or north-west, or between south and south-west; avoid the north-east and the centre of the house.
- The toilet seat ideally faces north or south.
- Bathing areas can be in the east.
Practical & building science
- Bathrooms need an openable window or an exhaust fan ducted outdoors to remove moisture; trapped humidity leads to mould and damp walls.
- Group wet areas together vertically and horizontally to simplify plumbing and reduce leakage points.
- Ensure floors slope to the drain and that waterproofing is done properly before tiling.

Common challenges
Toilet in the north-east
Practically, keep it dry, clean and very well ventilated, with the door closed. Traditional consultants suggest various remedies; ask before any structural change.
Traditional Vastu recommendations are presented for cultural and educational interest and are not guaranteed to produce any particular outcome. For structural changes or safety questions, consult a qualified architect or engineer.
