Room by Room
Bedroom
A room for rest — calm, dark at night, well ventilated, and placed for stability.
Traditional Vastu guidance
- The master bedroom is placed in the south-west; children's rooms in the west or north-west; guest rooms in the north-west.
- Sleep with the head toward the south (or east). Sleeping with the head to the north is traditionally discouraged.
- Avoid mirrors facing the bed and avoid placing the bed under a beam.
- Keep the north-east of the bedroom clutter-free.
Practical & building science
- Good sleep depends on darkness, quiet and a cool, well-ventilated room. Carbon dioxide builds up quickly in a closed bedroom at night; a slightly open window or a trickle vent helps.
- Morning daylight helps regulate the body clock — east or north-east light in a bedroom is beneficial.
- West-facing bedrooms can stay hot into the night because walls release stored afternoon heat; shading and insulation help.
- Keep electronics out of the bed area for better sleep habits.

Common challenges
Bed cannot be placed with the head to the south
East is the traditional alternative. Practically, choose the arrangement that keeps the bed out of direct draughts and away from the door.
