Independent Houses & Renovations
Improving an existing home step by step — from simple changes to structural ones.
Traditional Vastu guidance
- Traditional remedies (upaya) are often suggested before demolition: changing room use, rearranging furniture, colours, and placement of objects.
- Renovation is a chance to open the north-east, clear the Brahmasthana and relocate the kitchen or puja room.
Practical & building science
- Start with low-cost improvements: clean and repair windows, add insect screens, install exhaust fans, paint in light colours.
- Next: add external shading to west and south windows, add high-level ventilators, convert solid internal doors to louvred or glazed.
- Structural steps such as new openings, skylights or a light-well need an engineer's approval.
- Roof insulation or reflective roof coatings greatly reduce top-floor heat.
